Varketili literally means “I’m kind” in Georgian. It is probably not the most tourist visited place in Tbilisi. There used to be gardens and fruit trees in this area. During the Soviet rule, the land was transferred into the state and became a collective farm. In the 70’s, the fruit gardens were destroyed, as urbanization begun.
Apartment rent price in Varketili is one of the cheapest in Tbilisi. Construction of a lot of new apartment buildings, is going on in this area. So, probably more people will move to live to this neighborhood in upcoming years. Just recently, a modern and huge shopping mall East Point was opened in this neighborhood.
There are no lovely wood carved balconies, cobblestone streets or sulfur bath. However, as the name suggests, Varketili is inhabited with kind people.
